Samsung OfficeServ 7030 Phone System (up to 20 users)

The OfficeServ 7030 small business phone system offers users a feature rich solution that can scale up to 20 users - more than enough for 90% of small companies. It's important to note that the 20 is a maximum configuration and it really depends on what combination of Samsung handsets you want. Maximum handset configuration per type for the OfficeServ 7030 IP Pbx are as follows:

  • Samsung IP handsets - 16 users
  • Samsung Digital handsets - 10 users
  • Analogue phones - 8 users

Like most phone systems these days the Samsung OfficeServ 7030 is a hybrid solution. This means you can operate different types of handset technologies as well as different types of phone lines too. This way customers get the best of all worlds as they can stay with what they have or migrate to IP now or in the future.

A solution that can adapt as you grow

Although the 7030 is limited to 20 users, the entire 7000 OfficeServ series offers modular architecture as well as common software and handsets across the entire range. As a customer it means you can start with the smaller 7030 however if your company grows, or you open other locations or have remote staff, you can expand to/network with larger systems in the OfficeServ 7000 series. Unlike previous Samsung solutions it means that you're never stuck with a solution that doesn't accommodate your potential future requirements.

The Samsung Office Serv 7030 IP Pbx does VoIP

For this small business pbx Samsung also included the ability to have up to 8 SIP trunks. SIP are premium quality VoIP phone lines for business and 8 SIP trunks are the same as 8 traditional phone lines. This is not to be confused with 16 IP users (that's 16 IP handsets not phone lines). The fact that SIP is now available in smaller phone systems, like the base model 7030 OfficeServ, is a reflection of the mass market transition to VoIP.

Can you keep your existing phone lines and not go VoIP?

Yes you can. As a hybrid the OfficeServ 7030 pbx allows you to connect either traditional PSTN or ISDN 2 phone lines (up to 8 lines max for either). So although SIP trunking is available, you don't need to go full IP if you choose not to. You still get an easy to use solution will lots of features and the technology is there if/when you're ready.

What benefit is there stepping up to the larger OfficeServ 7100?

If you're only a small business and don't need the growth then there is little cause to justify the additional outlay. On top of the increased number of staff for the Samsung OfficeServ 7100 phone system (up to 32 users) you also get double the capacity (4 ports) for voicemail and Auto Attendant. This means that your system can answer up to 4 calls at once. If you don't have a receptionist and want Press 1, Press 2 options etc then the extra capacity could be money well spent. If expansion and extra VM and AA capacity are irrelevant then stick with the OfficeServ 7030 pbx solution.

Range of different Samsung handsets to choose from.

The Samsung OfficeServ 7030 supports a range of easy to use and well designed wireless, digital and IP handsets. The wireless IP handsets are a great addition at this low end of the market and allow small business staff to have mobility whilst still accessing the phone systems functions.

The Samsung digital handsets are cheaper than the IP versions but there can be benefit in spending the extra money if you have remote locations, a lack of existing phone cabling or simply like the plug and play afforded by IP technology.  Here is a list of the handsets available for the OfficeServ 7030:

Key Features of the Samsung OfficeServ 7030 phone system:

  • Up to 20 users (Handset Capacity - IP 16, Digital 10, analogue 8)
  • Connect up to 8 PSTN, ISDN or SIP trunks to 7030 (No Primary rate)
  • Choose from a range of Samsung IP, Digital and Wireless IP handsets
  • Feature rich
  • 2 port sophisticated voicemail and auto attendant
  • CTI as well as applications like OfficeServ Call, Easyset and Manager software
  • IP networking for remote users or systems
  • Small business pricing

Is the Samsung OfficeServ 7030 phone system NBN ready?

Like all IP Pbx systems it is. If you're not moving to VoIP for your phone calls then the NBN is irrelevant anyway. Even if you are deploying IP handsets in the office this is contingent upon your internal network infrastructure not external factors like the NBN.

If you're considering VoIP the only benefit of the NBN is if your current ADSL connection is not fast enough, or stable enough, to deliver quality VoIP phone calls. If you have ADSL2+ currently then you've probably got what you need already. For HD quality Video conferencing the NBN may help but the OfficeServ 7030 doesn't support it anyway. The NBN will only affect customers that haven't been able to get decent internet to this point - typically regional areas or outer metro. As a rule we always check your SIP (VoIP) compatibility before we do anything anyway for your peace of mind.

Wi-fi Access and the OfficeServ 7030

With Wi-Fi access points in your office you can now use Wi-Fi handsets and PDA's to connect seamlessly to the Samsung 7030 phone system. This can increase the range of mobility well beyond traditional cordless phones. Connect your mobiles phones and PC's to the phone system.

Like many IP PBX systems the Samsung OfficeServ 7030 pbx system offers the ability to twin your mobile phone to the system. This is where your desk phone and mobile are programmed to ring at the same time. So no matter whether you are in or out of the office you're always contactable from your one office extension.

Twinning is the basic way and is now somewhat par for the course. Some other manufacturers have taken this a step further and allow you to download SIP applications to your iPhone, Tablet or Android device. From there you have access to the phone system and features of the system anywhere you get Wi-Fi or 3G services. The technology is so good that some manufacturers like Avaya even offer Video conferencing and GEO location services as well through their applications. The Samsung OfficeServ 7030 also allows mobile users to load softphone applications on their PC's. This way you get a virtual phone handset on screen that allows you to use you phone through your PC or laptop. This is great for people that travel around but if you're looking at remote worker in a fixed location then a straightforward IP handset is usually the best way to go.

Advanced Voicemail and email integration

Voicemail is included in most solutions however the voicemail for this small business solution is very sophisticated. The Samsung 7030 pbx voicemail goes one step further, allowing users to intelligently route callers with different greetings and employing call routing based on time of day, day of week, caller ID and DDI (Direct In dial). This way you can have different messages automatically configured for any eventuality.

Many customers will never use this function but for power phone users its definitely worth the time to set up once. Imagine having your phone on DND (Do Not Disturb) with calls going to voicemail but still having the ability to let certain internal/ external numbers ring through. Or if you take lunch at the same time it will automatically go to voicemail at the right time every day. You can even have your voicemails play on the speakerphone before you decide to intrude and pick up the call.

The email integration feature gives staff the ability to access and manage voicemail messages as emails directly into their inbox. This way you staff can easily listen to, respond, transfer and forward voice and email messages quickly an efficiently. No more waiting to get back to the office and no more excuses.

Uniform Call distribution, call recording and call centre applications

Years ago features like this on a small system would have been unthinkable. With advanced call routing you can not only intelligently distribute calls between users but you can also see how many people are in the queue etc by simply looking at your phone's screen.

If you're running a mini call centre the OfficeServ 7030 CRM application can make call routing decisions based on the CLI or DDI number dialled. It can even perform skill based routing to an individual or group that may be best served to take particular type of call. The Samsung CMS application can then measure and report on all this information for both live response times as well as historical information. This is something we didn't expect to find on the entry level Samsung 7030 phone system. It really is a very smart little pbx solution.

Even the ability to call record is something companies used to pay $1000's for. Yes solutions like Hosted IP Pbx's offer it for next to nothing but it just shows how far the technology has trickled down to even the smallest businesses. It is a fantastic feature for staff training or keeping recordings for future reference.

Samsung OfficeServ 7030 pbx and CTI Applications

CTI is simply Computer Telephone Integration. It's the ability of your phone system to talk to your computer network and PC's. This allows you to do things like:

OfficeServ Call - is a Windows call management application providing simple point-and-click access to the full range of advanced call handling features of the OfficeServ 7030 system. OfficeServ Call can interact with a range of TAPI-based applications such as Outlook to allow users to perform functions such as dialling from Contact List, Screen Pop, Missed Calls, and also acts as a personal BLF (Busy Lamp Field) for the users.

OfficeServ Easyset - is a Windows Browser application that enables users to customise their own phone settings simply and easily with this application. You don't need to be an expert to use it and with a simple mouse click you can quickly change features like Extension BLF, Divert Target, Divert Condition and Personal Speed Dials etc.

OfficeServ Manager software - this allows managers to administer their own systems removing the reliance on the phone installer and giving them virtually complete control. This significantly reduces the TCO over the life of the system.

OfficeServ 7030 is also Microsoft TAPI compliant and compatible with a wide range of industry standard CTI applications.
