Avaya 9650 and 9650C Phone Handset

The Avaya 9650 and 9650C IP phone is at the premium end of the large 9600 IP series lineup. It’s designed with heavy users, even receptionists in mind. There is a choice of handset colours and there is both a greysale and colour screen option to suit. Gigabit connectivity is via an optional adaptor and not integrated like other models. Avaya 9650 and 9650C Phone Handset (Reception SIP Phone)

The Avaya 9650 IP handset is similar to the 9630 and 9640 but it works slightly differently and is cheaper.  Where the 9630G and 9640G have 6 buttons with corresponding items displayed next to them, the 9650 is somewhat of a traditional and modern hybrid.  It offers 3 buttons next to the screen as well as 8 buttons below the screen that you easily toggle to see the flashing status of 16 programmable buttons at a glance with the information relating to each digitally displayed on the large screen above.  For staff answering and transferring a lot of calls this is actually easier to use.  The only other difference is the gigabit support is achieved with an adaptor as opposed to integrated.

If you need more buttons you can easily add a 12 button LCD DSS console (36 programmable buttons in total) that takes viewing up to 70 users.  If the phone is for a larger reception environment we suggest the use of a PC attendant that makes the job easier again and everything is done with the click of a mouse, not on the phone.

The 9650 comes in a greyscale option as well as the 9650C with colour screen.  The 9650 also comes in a range of handset colour offerings with grey, red, yellow, blue, white and silver currently available.

Whether you choose the colour (9650C) or the greyscale (9650) option, the screen is also the same size as the 9630 and 9640 phone models so it’s large and easy to read.  Colour screens on the Avaya 9650C are definitely easier to use.  Visually with the colour layouts you can see and navigate more simply what’s being displayed.  For a reception the extra money is well spent in the absence of PC attendant.  The colour screen display is not capacitive touch (only available on the 96219641 and 9670).

The LED buttons next to the 8 keys below only come in red (not red and green like the 9611G and 9608).  Having different colour LED lights actually make it easier to see status of the buttons at a glance and we think it would have been a better option on the 9650 phone.  In total users have 24 administrative buttons on the 9650 handset so they can see a lot of what’s going on with regard to staff/ phone lines, or whatever they have elected to program the buttons for.  Please take the time to check out the comparison chart at the bottom of the page to see the specific differences between the individual 9600 series handset models available.

When you remove the need for handset colour options, POE class 2 and custom face plates, the 9611G and 9621G are still excellent options and considerably cheaper.  Both these models offer the same 24 administrative buttons, a colour screen (touch colour with the 9621G), red/green LED status lights and everything else.  Unless you have a specific colour handset in mind to compliment your corporate branding or office pallet, you’d be hard pressed to go past the cheaper phone models.  If you do want colour also check out the 9630 and 9640 handsets.

The Avaya 9650 is designed for the heavy user, or navigator in the Avaya terminology.  The only other “navigator” handset is the Avaya 9641.  The 9650 and 9650C handset incorporates wideband audio to deliver premium, natural sounding IP telephony.  The Avaya 9650 also offers the popular soft keys (4) below the display that are contextually sensitive.  This means that the 9650 will intelligently present the best options depending on what function you’re performing on screen.  For example, if you’ve hit the message key to enter voicemail it will display options for play, delete, save etc.  It's designed to make life even easier for everyday use.

In a typical gigabit environment rollout the Avaya 9611G IP and 9621G IP phones are normally the most popular.  For offices looking to maintain a 10/100MB environment the cheaper 9608 is still an excellent choice. Whatever your final handset composition, the Avaya IP Office 500 pbx intelligently allows you to select from ANY combination of the IP or phone handsets in either the budget or premium series.  It's a great way to pay for what you need and keep your implementation cost to a minimum.

Like all IP handsets, the Avaya 9650 phone handset will connect to any active Ethernet port on the Avaya IP Office 500 pabx.  The 9650 IP phone will automatically register and once you’ve logged in will bring up your extension number and customised programming whether you’re in the office or connected remotely.
