NEC DT730 32D IP Phone Terminal

Having 32 customisable buttons is highly unusual for an IP phone. Most companies have gone to a much larger screen design with visibility of more than 32 items achieved by scrolling on screen. In principle you can see more staff but dont underestimate the ease of use of having 32 instantly visible buttons instead. This may be a throwback to more traditional pbx handset design but its a feature that people like and are used to. Accompanying the 32 buttons are multi colour LED indicator lights. This shows the status of the 32D keys and whether staff/phone lines or functions are available or busy depending on what you have customised them for.

Like all the NEC DT700 IP series handsets the DT730 ITL-32D VoIP phone is well designed and very easy to use. The screen is perhaps smaller than many current IP brands but it is backlit and easy to see in any office light conditions.

Below the NEC DT730 32D display screen there are also 4 context keys with make day to day use much easier. So popular is this feature that most leading phone brands have adopted this design and functionality. For your staff it means that the phone logically predicts what features are best for what youre doing and intelligently displays them on screen above the 4 corresponding soft keys.

To the right of the context keys is also a very handy and unique "help" key. In case you lose your manual, which everyone does, youll always be able to get help on handset features directly from the screen. Its always there and it is a wonderful addition to the NEC handsets.

With many handsets that have lots of programmable buttons you get paper label inserts to write names on. This also applies to the DT730 32D VoIP phone and is arguably one of the few drawbacks of the NEC IP handset range (except DT730 Desi Less and DT750). Other manufactures have opted for on screen displays on their IP handsets which makes paper labels a thing of the past.

The NEC DT730 32D VoIP phone also has a user friendly jog dial navigator for quick access to system directories, redials and the like. Remember that if you have names of customers or suppliers you contact all the time it is still easier to program them into one of the 32 programmable buttons.

The sound quality on the NEC DT730 32D phone is very good as youd expect when you combine features like G.722 Wideband audio CODEC and Full Duplex handset free capabilities. So what does that actually mean? Wideband audio delivers a premium, natural sounding IP sound experience. Some cheaper IP handsets only offer narrowband audio which offers higher compression and an inferior sound. The "Full duplex" component means that you can use the large speakerphone on the DT730 ITL-32D and have excellent quality hands free conferences. Full duplex is the same technology employed on expensive Polycom conference phone units so you know it works. Hands free, or over the phone, the sound quality is spot on.

The DT730 ITL-32D phone comes standard with two 10/100MB LAN ports but you also have the option of a separate Gigabit adaptor. If you want to go Gigabit at a later date you can always add on the Gig adaptor if/when youre ready. This means you can connect both your PC and your NEC DT730 32D IP handset to a single Ethernet connection. The port runs into the back of the handset and a separate cable runs from the phone to your PC.

The DT730 32key VoIP phone also allows for instantaneous plug and play registration. Unlike digital phones that need to be programmed, an IP handset instantly finds the pbx once connected to an active port. You then login to the phone and it will instantly bring all your personalised settings and even your extension number. This is one of the greatest benefits of IP technology. For remote users the same applies. If your staff are working from home etc they simply connect to their network switch and away they go. If you have fewer desks than staff and hotdesk then it makes it very easy for transient staff to have a phone when they need one. The next user simply logins again and the settings change for each staff member. The NEC UNIVERGE SV8000 IP pbx phone systems are of a hybrid nature. Unlike pure IP or hosted solutions that only support IP, these "hybrid" systems can connect to digital, IP and analogue phones. This is very important and relevant when calculating your handset mix composition. Phones are the largest cost component of normal implementations and also the easiest way to reduce costs. If your company already has existing phone and data connections at each desk then digital phones are a cheaper solution and still work the same way. DO NOT think that because you are using VoIP for your phone calls that you must also have IP phones - this is a popular misconception. So work out and make sure the IP benefits are there for your staff and consider a mixed NEC handset deployment. The key benefits of IP handsets are for remote users, hotdesking situations and limited Ethernet port availability in the office. Outside of that, businesses function perfectly well and still have access to all the most common system features with cheaper NEC phone handsets.
