It could be more complicated than you think…

So you want to save some money and install a phone system yourself?
We understand that, and we hear that request a lot here at Infiniti. Unfortunately, many people assume that installing a phone system is a simple plug and play exercise. If only this were the case.

While it is possible to install a phone system yourself, there are a few catches you need to be aware of. How simple or complicated these catches may be will depend on the type of phone system itself.

Let’s have a look at some of the challenges that many of our customers have faced in the past, and find out why hosted phone systems are making life a LOT easier.

Installing and connecting lines to a normal phone system

DIY phone system installation requires that you know your way around your phone lines.

Older phone systems had the phone lines physically pressed into them with a special punching tool, while newer models are connected to phone lines using RJ plugs. Newer models are much simpler to connect yourself, and you’d be able to do it quite easily.

Programming Hybrid and Traditional Phone Systems

Programming is a major factor to consider if you want to install a phone system yourself. The biggest challenge faced by DIY-ers  is not the physical connections mentioned above, but the programming that’s required.  Phone technicians do extensive training courses on each brand to become experts.

The fact that phone systems vary so much means that it’s extremely difficult to program one yourself if you’ve got no experience. At a stretch, a user with a little understanding of phone systems and how to read instruction manuals might be able to figure out the basic features. However, the more advanced features would be impossible for someone who has no training or experience.  It makes sense to have a certified technician do the complicated, technical parts of the install.

While you may think DIY installation will save money, you’d probably end up having to call a technician anyway.

If you’re located in a regional area with limited technicians available, you can have your system programmed so that a self-installation is easier. All you’d have to do is connect the phone lines and handsets to the main system equipment. It’s been a great solution for quite a few of our customers so far. The only caveat has been the need for RJ connectors on the installation end.

Programming and installing Hosted PBX systems

Hosted phone systems are a whole different story, because the physical aspect involves only a modem and a switch. This makes it easy for you because the features will be pre programmed without any technician ever having to be involved. You simply have to connect the internet and the handsets to the network switch.

Another great bonus is that many hosted PBX systems have online and web based programming applications that are simplified for everyday people. These applications allow customers to program their own systems, handsets, and ring groups.

Infiniti chooses to supply SpringCom Hosted PBX systems. They come with free programming and Australian based customer support for the life of your system. So, no matter how simple or complicated your programming is, you’ll NEVER have to figure you how to do it yourself.  Just a simple phone call and we can do everything for you, free of charge.

Still want to install a phone system yourself?

All of the programming will be done beforehand, which means it’s simple for you o install yourself. Managing and making changes is also a lot easier. It’s more complicated to install a hybrid phone system, and we would recommend you don’t waste your time. If you’re determined to do it, give us a call to talk about your experience. They’ll give you honest advice about whether or not you’re up for the task. You can also talk to the Infiniti team about having your traditional or hybrid system pre program your traditional or hybrid system before we ship it to you.
