With the changes happening all across Australia, it is no doubt that you have heard about NBN phone systems. So, what are NBN phone systems? Put simply, an NBN phone system is an IP enabled phone system, where calls are made via the internet. When you hear people talking about NBN phone systems, they are most likely referring to a Hosted Phone System- also known as a Cloud Phone System,where the 'brains' of the phone system live in the cloud. Hosted Cloud Phone System

You may hear Hosted Phone systems referred to in a number of different ways: NBN Phone Systems, Virtual Phone Systems, VoIP or SIP Phone systems, Cloud Phone Systems or Cloud Based Systems. Well, put simply, a Hosted System is the smart solution for many businesses. With Hosted NBN Phone Systems there is no expensive hardware required, as there isn' t a large PABX box located in your office that all the handsets have to be wired back to. Instead, all of your system' s features, programming and data is stored 'in the cloud' . Connecting is simple, just plug your IP enabled handsets or soft-phones into an internet connection and they will connect back to the datacenter that runs your phone system automatically.

Traditional 'On Premises' Phone System

Unlike Hosted Phone Systems, Traditional Phone Systems consist of a physical box that lives in your office. On premise PABX systems have traditionally used PSTN, ISDN and, more recently, SIP trunks to make and receive calls.

The most important thing is that your on premise PABX is IP compatible, which means it can send and receive digital data.

If your system is not IP enabled, don' t worry- in most cases the system can be made to work with the NBN. However, this depends on the type and age of the phone system, so you would have to talk to a supplier to find out about your own circumstances.
